What We Have Done
Our biggest accomplishment has defiantly been successfully legalizing beekeeping in Edina, Minnesota. However, were not alone in the fight for the change. Many people spoke up for the bees and helped make residential beekeeping possible. We are so excited that it is now possible to create homes for the honey bees, and look after them in backyards of Edina. We hope this will influence many other cities around Minnesota to become more bee-friendly.
We made it to the front page of the Edina City Council website!
After talking in front of the Council, and doing some flower planting around Edina, we were interviewed by the City! They wrote an article on us and what we are doing. We are so happy that we are making progress and raising awareness for honey bees in Edina.
We hope that people will continue to realize how huge a problem this is becoming, and learn what they can do to help.

We had the wonderful opportunity to write a blog for the National Youth Leadership Council's website! It's great to be able to share our story to inspire other youth and adults to make a difference in their communities.
We are so honored to be a part of what the NYLC are doing to help and raise awareness for what youth are doing to change the world.

After presenting our case to the city council members on May 20th, they have agreed to let us plant bee friendly flowers in some of the flower beds around Edina. This is a great step forward for the bees. By planting bee friendly flowers around Edina, we hope that this will set off a chain reaction of bee habitation in Edina. If more bees come, more colonies will be created. We were not, however, the first ones interested in helping the honey bees. We were also were interviewed by the city about what we are doing with this project, what we learned, and some advice for the community so they can help the bees too! This is a big step for us and raising awareness for dangers that honey bees are facing.
We were also very excited to here that Speak Up Edina chose to focus on honey bees for the month of May. Many people were interested. We believe that because we, the younger generation showed interest in making beekeeping legal in Edina, we helped to make people more interested in the matter. We are so happy to have an impact on our community and we really hope we can continue to convince people of the good that honey bees do in our society.

Here is a link to the Power Point we created to present to the city council. It has more of our statistics and our proposal!
