What others have done for the bees
The EPA just announced a temporary ban on new bee-killing pesticides—but they still haven’t done anything about those ALREADY on the market. This shows that the EPA is hearing our voices, listening to the science, finally paying attention to the massive global bee die-off. Visit their website to find our more. The City of Edina Energy & Environment Commission, in partnership with Edina Parks and Recreation Department, is working to educate residents and protect the importance of the honey bees as pollinators in Edina. The EEC has made a film series educating the public on honey bees, their contributions to our society and what can be done to protect them. Additional pollinator events have been organized be the EEC to increase awareness in Edina.

Jeff Dankey and David Chin are Edina citizens who bee-keep in Minnetonka. They have 130 hives. In the article on them in the Edina magazine, Tom Willmert writes, "The symbiotic bee-plant interplay is ecologically critical and economically integral for agriculture. Bees also help maintain a suburb’s 'rich floral environment' according to Chin. 'In investigating the public policy side of beekeeping in urban municipalities, my studies have helped me understand the importance of bees to a community.'" This is a great way of looking at the necessity of honey bees. Its great that even though they can't keep bees in Edina, David has enough land in Minnetonka for bee hives, orchards and other agricultural plants. We hope soon that they will be able to have more bee hives right here in Edina.
